Clara Goodwin is currently a sports anchor/reporter at KFSM based out of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Clara grew up in Eagle, Idaho, where she threw herself into the sports department by participating in athletics, sports broadcasting, and sports medicine. Ever since then, she knew sports were her passion. She loves the excitement of the games and showing the fans sides of the athletes they normally wouldn’t get to see.
Clara prepared for her a professional career in sports broadcasting at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. At BYU, Clara reported weekly for KBYU Eleven News in the Salt Lake City market. She traveled with the BYU football team and the BYU basketball team, covering both home and away games and the 2015 WCC Basketball Tournament – where the BYU women’s team took first and the BYU men’s team took second. She has had hands on training with professional sports talent, including Marcellus Wiley with ESPN SportsNation.
While Clara was in Utah, she had the opportunity to work in two professional newsroom – BYUtv and KSL. With these two stations, Clara was able to cover sports at all levels – including high school, collegiate, and professional with the Utah Jazz.
Following graduation, Clara took a plunge into the unknown and moved to Great Falls, Montana to help lead a four person sports department. Clara anchored four regional shows nightly to include the best coverage of local and regional sports. She was a one-man-band reporter and worked to be involved in the community and have teams trust her to tell their stories. She managed a team of three other sports reporters – and was responsible for department scheduling, content, and coverage of local teams. While in Montana, Clara also was sideline reporter for SWX – a regional station that provides live broadcasts of local sporting events.
These days, Clara decided to go out of her comfort zone and move to the South – now based out of Fayetteville, Arkansas. She is the weekend sports anchor/weekday sports reporter for KFSM – the CBS affiliate in the Fort Smith/Fayetteville/Rogers market. In Arkansas, Clara has loved getting the chance to cover SEC sports and some of the best high school football the country has to offer. She is slowly learning to embrace country music, fried food, saying “y’all”.
Clara has extensive experience doing live shots and live broadcasts that are both interactive and informative. She has experience utilizing video editing platforms including Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Avid Newscutter, and more. She has extensive experience creating website content and embracing social media with the use of Facebook Live, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram to reach viewers in a digital setting. She has experience developing shows from scratch and has the ability to take a concept and produce visual and written elements that appeal to television and web audiences.
Clara’s love of storytelling has allowed her to go beyond the highlights and enterprise ideas that the audience wants to hear and can connect to. She is an energetic self-starter and she has a go-getter, never-back-down personality.
